The details

Everything else, in plain text

How to use it
Step 1: Cleanse and moisturise first. Sunscreen goes on last, over everything else. Step 2: Apply two finger-lengths for your face and neck. That is roughly 2 ml, and it is the amount SPF 50 is actually tested at. Use less and you get less than SPF 50 - there is a slider on this page that shows you how much less. Step 3: Blend it in properly, including your ears, hairline and the back of your neck. Step 4: Reapply every two hours of sun exposure. SPF 50 behaves like SPF 50 for about two hours, then it is a smaller number. Use it every morning, including indoors and on overcast days. UVA passes through window glass.

The tests, and who ran them

Every claim on this page is a number from one of these reports, or a concession we made ourselves.

Under a UV camera

This is what the sun is already doing.

A UV camera sees damage months before your mirror does. Drag the handle.

What it does

Four numbers, no adjectives.

01 SPF 50

PA++++

Broad spectrum UVA and UVB, tested in-vivo.

02 0

White cast

Tested across Indian skin tones.

03 2 ml

Per full face

Two finger-lengths. The tested dose.

04 0

Fragrance

No fragrance, no alcohol.

Claim autopsy

Tested for sensitive skin. Not just called gentle.

Gentle is an adjective. Anyone can print it. This went to government-approved laboratories and came back certified non-irritant. The reports are above.

  • Non-irritant, certified
  • Fragrance-free
  • Alcohol-free
  • Dermatologically tested
Day 1
It disappears

No white cast, no film. Immediate, or it has failed.

Week 1
Less new damage

You will not see this. That is the point.

Week 4
Tone settles

Niacinamide works slowly. Uneven tone starts calming.

Week 8
The realistic window

Where honest results live.

On your skin

What to expect

It will not sting
Certified non-irritant on sensitive skin.
No white cast
Five new-generation filters, not mineral ones.
No greasy film
A fluid, not a cream.
It holds all day
Heat, sweat and humidity resistant.
What's in it

What is actually in this bottle

Five UV filters, five skin actives.

UV filter

Tinosorb M

Absorbs, scatters, reflects UV

The backbone of the protection. Photostable, so it keeps working in sunlight. Does nothing for pigmentation you already have.

UV filter

Tinosorb S

Covers UVA and UVB

Holds the SPF 50 rating without weight. A filter, not a treatment.

UV filter

Uvinul A Plus

Blocks long UVA

Targets UVA1, behind tanning and premature ageing. The rays cheaper sunscreens miss.

UV filter

Uvinul T 150

Blocks UVB

UVB is what burns you. This filter carries most of the SPF number.

UV filter

Octinoxate

UVB support

Blends into fluid textures. Part of why this absorbs in seconds.

Skin active

Niacinamide

Evens tone. Works slowly.

Uneven tone and the look of pores, over weeks. Does nothing for old scars.

Skin active

Centella Asiatica

Calms redness

Why sensitive skin gets on with this. Not a treatment for rosacea.

Skin active

Sodium Hyaluronate

Binds water into skin

Protection without dryness. It holds water. It does not replace a moisturiser.

Skin active

Willow Bark

Keeps pores clear

Gentle natural salicylates, for pores under sunscreen all day.

Skin active

Neem

Soothes, purifies

Used in India for generations. Supporting cast, not the active.

Concessions

What it will not do

Three things it cannot fix.

Undo a tan

It prevents new damage. Existing pigmentation needs months and different products.

Work at half the dose

Less than two finger-lengths means less than SPF 50.

Treat acne

It will not clog pores and will not clear them.

2hours

SPF 50 behaves like SPF 50 for about two hours of sun. After that it is a lower number. Reapply, or accept the lower number.

Questions

Questions, answered plainly

Is this sunscreen safe for sensitive skin?
Yes, and that isn't just a word on the label. It was dermatologically tested and certified non-irritant on sensitive skin at government-approved laboratories. It's also fragrance-free and alcohol-free, since those are the two things sensitive skin usually reacts to. Patch test anyway if your skin is very reactive.
Which sunscreen doesn't leave a white cast on Indian skin tones?
Second Skin was formulated and tested specifically to blend into every Indian skin tone with no white cast or grey flash, using new-age UV filters instead of heavy mineral ones.
Does this sunscreen feel heavy or greasy in Indian heat?
It's a fluid, not a cream. It absorbs in seconds and is built to hold up through heat, sweat and humidity rather than sliding off by midday.
How often should sunscreen be reapplied outdoors?
Every 2 to 3 hours during sun exposure, and after heavy sweating. SPF 50 PA++++ isn't apply-once-and-forget, and you need roughly two finger-lengths for the full face to actually get the protection on the bottle.
What UV filters and actives does this sunscreen contain?
Tinosorb M and Uvinul A Plus for photostable broad-spectrum SPF 50 PA++++ protection, plus Centella Asiatica for calming, Niacinamide for tone, Sodium Hyaluronate for hydration, and Willow Bark and Neem for skin that congests easily.
Does Face O'Clock offer a money-back guarantee on sunscreen?
Yes, a 7-day money-back guarantee from the delivery date, including if the formula doesn't agree with your skin. It applies once per customer on a first-time purchase, with full terms on the refund policy page.
